This is one of my favourite movies, hence the reason I got it high up on the list on both my top movie and my favourite horror movie list. This movie got all the things that we have learned to love in japanese horror movies. From the opening credits to the very end the movie manage to keep you on your toes, as you never really know what is going on even though you think you do untill the very end.
The plot is about Nagisa Sugiura, a young aspiring actor that lands a role in a horror movie based on a real incident where a man kills 11 people in a hotel including his family before he takes his own life. The movie is partially shot in studio and partially shot in the actual hotel where the killings took place. Nothing can go wrong in this scenario right? In the beginning Nagisa Sugiara sees people that nobody else can see, but as the movie progresses more and more of what progressed at the hotel 30 years ago is revealed to her.
The movie itself does not cut any corners in any way. The cast is solid, and the characters they portrait is belivable. The story is engaging and unsettling, and the directing is masterfully done. Last but not least the composer have made music that helps keeping the dark athmosphere in the movie and make the hairs on your arm rise at just the right moment.
This is a movie that every fan of the horror genre should see, especially if you like horror stories with a supernatural theme.
