One-Eyed Monster

Why do I watch these things?

I saw this on Netflix and decided, why not? It is of course, horrid. It is meant to be. If you are looking for a movie that is awful, to watch with a crap load of friends and drink or eat and giggle. This movie works. Provided your friends are over 18.

Now the movie itself. A group of people making a porn film head out to a deserted cabin in winter to shoot their film. They are not random group of people, they are part of the industry itself. While up there a snow storm hits and strands them on the mountain. Then an alien possesses Ron Jeremy or rather one part of him. Which then rips itself off of him. Which then proceeds to kill all male and infertile females of the group. I should now point out that Ron Jeremy is actually a porn star. This is also the first thing I have ever seen him in. I can not tell you if he is acting this cheesy on purpose or just can't act because he is a porn star.

The alien is not shown often until the end. Partly I feel, not for a sense of drama or fear but because it's a dismembered uh hmm 'member'. There are a lot of porn gags, a lot. However there is less to seen in this film than say I Spit on Your Grave and leaves you less uncomfortable. They show you nothing in the actual scenes and I was pleasantly surprised by that. I was expecting far worse of this film considering how horror uses sex as a stereotype to fall back upon. I also spotted a scene poking fun at independence day and alien respectively. There are probably others that I missed but those are the ones I noticed.

It's meant to be both stupid and funny and I guess it nails the stupid part. If you find the Scary Movie series amusing. You will probably find this as well.

One-Eyed Monster Review comment

That's why I love Neflix - for every decent horror film I've seen (Grave Encounters comes to mind), there are probably eight I should have just up and skipped, but I continue to watch them anyway. Ah, at least I'll know I'll never be bored, just disappointed.
