Side Effects is Thrilling and Beautiful

A very tightly woven thriller with an odd ambiguous ending just the way I like ‘em. Side Effects more then any other movie I’ve seen so far this year warrants discussion. I wish I hadn’t gone to see it alone, the way I’d have someone to talk to about this very provocative film.
To describe the premise of this film is to ruin it, and the ending is in some way’s glorious and in other way’s unfulfilling, but that isn’t due to incompetence on part of the film makers, but due to careful deliberateness. The twists, the characters and the thrill of the film are all setup wonderfully.
Side Effects isn’t just about the twists either, (though there are good twists) it’s about characters. I love Jude Laws honest Psychiatrist; his evolution from a good man to one who is willing to be corrupt for selfish reasons is done flawlessly, and the other characters motivations and psychosis are all done well too.
My only complaint with the film is a small plot hole that I discovered, fortunately I didn’t notice the little bugger until afterwords so it’s very possible that other movie goers may not notice it at all (or notice it right off and allow it to ruin the film, but that doesn’t seem likely.)
I recommend this movie to everyone. It probably won’t be the best movie to be released in 2013, but unless this year is above average for the cinema it will probably be in my top ten.
