Fun Ride; Cliche plot

World War Z has little in common with its source material, and I don’t particularly care. We’ve had several romantic comedy zombie movies, we’ve had a zombie movie with vampires and even a children’s zombie movie, but we haven’t really had a major, straight up, major, zombie film since 28 Weeks Later. World War Z may not be a fresh take on the genre, but it’s a really fun throwback.
World War Z plays it fast and holds on tight, keeping the audience engaged throughout its run time. Each new set piece keeps the audience on their toes and even after the third time Brad Pitt has had to sneak past the zombies to get to the mcguffin so that he can get to the other mcguffin and save the day with the mcguffin, the movie never loses its entertainment value. The audience is always excited to see were the film is going.
The characters are pretty flat and the movie can be cliché at time, but sometimes cliché is your friend. World War Z isn’t a stand out in the genre, infect it’s a big bag of zombie tropes, but it’s a really fun bag of zombie tropes.
