Cheesy in the Best Way Possible

Chef is definitely the happiest movie to come out this year. If you walk out of this one without a big smile on your face, you’re probably a Terminator. It really is a whole lot of fun to watch, maybe even more so then necessary.
Jon Favreau does a great job on both sides of the camera in this movie. This story about a divorced man who is trying to balance his relationship with his son and a professional predicament that came about due to a Twitter misunderstanding is really about finding a balance in life between all of the different stuff, good and bad, that life throws at you. Favreau’s character finds away to keep doing what he loves doing, being a chef, and finds away to connect with his young son all in one. The movies acting and heartfelt plot make a very fun, emotionally touching experience.
Honestly the whole thing is a little bit too sticky sweet for me to call it great. I understand that this is a comedy, but in the end I never really saw Favreau’s character struggle that much with anything, he never seemed more then mildly frustrated with the problems he was having, and at the end they fixed themselves quite easily. The plot about him trying to connect with his son isn’t all that original either, and it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when you think about it. It’s all wrapped up in a pretty care-free package, and doesn’t really challenge the audience. It pulls at the heart, but doesn’t do much for the mind.
It never feels forced though, and if this is movie is cheesy then I want a heart attack. It’s fun, funny and entertaining. Chef is Favreau’s best Directorial effort yet, and I would recommend it to anybody who wants to have a good time at the cinema.
