I've seen a multitude of mystery-crime films, but none have had me more involved and completely surprised than 'Gone Girl'. Each new plot reveal is more jaw-dropping than the last. It's all done purposefully to convey the themes of this clever story. Smart commentary and satire are perfectly woven into an already perfect genre piece. Marital problems are shown realistically, only to be taken into wildly entertaining extremes. I also love the accurate representation, and sharp skewering, of the usual media circus that becomes of similar real-life occurrences. The film starts dark and slowly becomes pitch black by the end. The depths that some characters reach are downright evil, in the most enjoyable sense. It's all in good fun. This is much, much more than a satisfying mystery. Every second is terrifically entertaining in ways you will not expect. SEE 'Gone Girl' as soon as possible and don't have anything spoiled beforehand.
