'The Brother's Grimsby' sees the comedic teaming of Cohen and Strong; two actors who I've always enjoyed. Here we get a gross-out buddy action comedy with a ridiculous story and characters. That sounds like a concoction of fun, right? NO. I did not enjoy any of this schlock. First off, the humor misses at almost every turn. I have no problem with dumb, gross, juvenile gags. To prove this point, the immeasurably stupid and crass 'MacGruber' was one of my favorite movies in it's release year. The problem with the jokes in 'Brothers Grimsby' is that they lack a proper setup within the story and become so unbelievable that I lost any sense of fun. They aren't very creative and their execution is sloppy. The other big negative here is the mismatched duo factor. You have two close brothers separated at a young age who grow up to be entirely different forms of adults, cross paths much later in life, and one of them happens to be a super-spy action hero. There's not only the opportunity for an 'odd couple' comedic relationship, but also the dramatic undercurrent of a once loving relationship being mended back to original status. All of this fails due to the incompetence in storytelling. Sentimental flashback scenes of the pair as children are randomly spliced through-out the nonsensical occurrences. The editing is so erratic to the point where a vague frame of the story barely holds up the rest. It's as if someone came into the cutting room and took out as much story as possible, leaving only the gags and some bits of action fully intact. This method also made the plot incomprehensible. At no point did I have any idea as to the "who, what, and why" in regards to the spy brother's on-going mission. This movie is just a complete mess. It's so short and super-fast paced that I didn't find it hard to sit through, but I also didn't care about anything that happened.
