I Want Some Too!!

'Everybody Wants Some!!' has been described by many as the "spiritual successor" to 'Dazed and Confused'. Honestly, that is the absolute best way to describe the aesthetic of this film. Those feelings I got from my first viewing of 'Dazed and Confused' have returned here. Writer/Director Linklater captures that exact same spirit and tone once again, perfectly encapsulating a period in life we've all had experience with (to some extent). The characters are so well defined in personality that each become memorable. I could identify with certain aspects of a few of the cast, especially the main character. Hanging out with these guys feels exactly like hanging out with a bunch of your “bros”. There’s an at-ease atmosphere of realism to most all of the interactions (which Linklater does best). Questions about male bonding, masculinity, competitiveness, and expansion of one’s self identity while in college are brought up in thoughtful and relatable ways. They add something more of value to what is otherwise considered a “hang-out” comedy. Speaking of comedy, I had a fare share of good laughs. Solid humor occurs naturally between these guys, blending seamlessly with the subtle insight. All of this moves at a breezy pace helped by the tremendous selection of 80’s tunes. There’s not a single criticism I can claim for this film. It does exactly what it aims to with affectionate precision. I had so much joy while watching! Gave me a giant visible grin from beginning to end. I was left completely satisfied and wanting more. I absolutely loved it!
