While it's hard to compete with Dazed and Confused, Richard Linklater manages to come damn close with Everybody Wants Some!! Essentially it's a movie about a bunch of guys (in this case the college baseball team) hanging out, trading barbs, partying, hooking up and occasionally trying to decide where their lives are going. It sounds shallow, but is anything but. Add in a killer soundtrack and Linklater's excellent dialogue and this is a worthy follow-up and, more important, just a great all-around film.

If there is any justice in this universe, all the actors in this movie will go on to long stable careers in Hollywood. Richard Linklater delivers another strong ensemble comedy with an excellent cast and sound comic timing working in sync with each other. Most notable about EVERYBODY WANTS SOME is the lack of conflict in the film which is refreshing from all these tired cliched teen movies that try to manufacture a sudden problem or adversary that needs to be overcome. Not with this picture. It's just a bunch of college boys having a good time and trying to pick up the right girl if possible. One of the best movies of the year thus far!

Einfach mal alles gehen lassen, die Zügel schleifen lassen. Ist ein Regisseur dazu bereit, eröffnen sich alle Möglichkeiten. Der Film kann langweilig werden oder sehr interessant. Für Richard Linklater sind sowieso die Menschen und ihre Beziehungen untereinander das Wichtigste. Er war wohl der Erste, der die Figuren im Kino so sprechen lassen konnte wie im Leben. Findet Linklater erst einmal seinen Rhythmus (und das gelingt in Everybody Wants Some!) macht niemand solche Filme wie er! Wer erinnert sich noch an seine tollen Party Filme aus den 90ern? So einen hat er jetzt wieder gemacht! Jake (Blake Jenner) ist ehrgeizig und brennt darauf, sich in der Baseball-Mannschaft zu beweisen. Wir schreiben das Jahr 1980 und Linklater hat eine ganze Sammlung von Songs aus den frühen 80ern …

'Everybody Wants Some!!' has been described by many as the "spiritual successor" to 'Dazed and Confused'. Honestly, that is the absolute best way to describe the aesthetic of this film. Those feelings I got from my first viewing of 'Dazed and Confused' have returned here. Writer/Director Linklater captures that exact same spirit and tone once again, perfectly encapsulating a period in life we've all had experience with (to some extent). The characters are so well defined in personality that each become memorable. I could identify with certain aspects of a few of the cast, especially the main character.
