'Clowns' Aren't Scary

'Clown' is an unfulfilling exercise in common horror tropes of the modern era. The initial premise of a man putting on a clown costume only to be stuck in it and slowly morph into a child eating demon (in clown form) is a solid idea. The only problem is that the film is lacking in every area besides the evil clown visuals. The quick synopsis I gave is all that ever occurs. There are no surprises, only dumb cliches carried out by dumb characters in the most dull fashion. It's story is entirely built on the absolute standard "every horror movie has to do this" mentality. Some low grade horror flicks can get away with this by being clever, having great characters/dialogue, new methods of shock, a fun sense of humor, or just reveling in sleaze and going all out. This movie opts to do none of those things - becoming a tired cliched bore in the process. I was laughing quite often at the stupidity of it all, but I couldn't tell if it was film's intent. The serious set tone and lack of any ounce of actual humor would have me believe otherwise. Body transformation is the only thing of interest present.
