Based off the bestselling novel, 'Gone Girl' is an absolutely unnerving but often darkly comical mystery thriller that also serves as a blistering indictment against the media frenzy that happens during every one of these high profile 'missing persons' case.
Ben Affleck gives one of his career's best performances as Nick Dunne, the self-described small-town guy from Missouri who seemingly scores the perfect wife in Amy Elliot (Rosamund Pike) who suddenly disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary. The community and nation rallies together in search of Amy but also to relentlessly pass judgement on Nick's innocence or lack thereof. In a big budget thriller like this you better believe there's some plot twists;some that have been spoiled in 'Gone Girl's marketing but some still pack a punch. The cast is full of people who you'd not expect to play their characters right but by god they do a good job. Tyler Perry as a sleazy lawyer? He's great! Neil Patrick Harris as the wifey's stalker ex? He's great! There's also a very funny appearance by Missi Pyle as a parody of Nancy Grace. One might think it'd collapse under a two and a half hour running time but the plot development keeps you rapt with attention wondering how it might end if at all.
