Truth - might be better with some fictional stuff.

Truth tries to be a twist on the political thriller formula established by 'All the President's Men' and it's interesting in the first half for it. The twist is that the central conspiracy is a complete fraud and ruins the lives of the reporters and journalists involved.
For the uninformed, it recreates the firestorm of controversy when 60 Minutes aired a critical report on George W. Bush's military service leading up to the 2004 election;unfortunately their report was based off information that was 100% false much to their embarassment. It ruined the lives of veteran reporter Dan Rather (Robert Redford) and his superior Mary Mapes (Cate Blanchett).
There's a compelling story to be told through film about that and for the first hour, Truth is going in that direction. Redford and Blanchett are both great. Playing Rather fits Redford like a glove. But the second half of the feature drags down and the movie doesn't recover. It's not terrible but it's not that entertaining.
