Gorgeous production design overwhelms an okay story about a doctor (RDJ) that ascends to the royal court of England only to fall from grace. But then as these movies usually go, he finds redemption in a more altruistic life. It's well acted but predictable. But the sets and the costumes rival the likes of 'Barry Lyndon' and 'Cleopatra' in terms of splendor.
