Action: 1.5/3 + Comedy: 0/2 + Good vs Evil: 0.5/1 + Love/Sex: 0.5/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 + Plot: 0.5/1 + Music: 0/1 = 3.5/10 or 35%.
I'm not basing this write-up on my love of the comics- it is far too easy to point out the superiority of the Dark Horse series. Not one single thing in this film is likeable though and when experimenting with combining horror/sci-fi legends always remember this: Aliens is A-class material, despite the atrocities of part 3 and most of 4, the first 2 are genuine classics. Predators are popular, but they are B-material babies all the way. Predators are in the same league as Freddy vs Jason. Schlok, fun, slightly scary alpha-males. Predator vs Jason vs Freddy would have been a schlok riot.
Instead though, the Predators are static. We saw them accept Danny Glover in P2 so the human they garnish worthy to fight aliens is old-hat. The Predators are already earth-based so them showing up is also no big shock. Now, the mayan-esqe temples that hold the aliens for Predator training is new to cinema. This new idea though degrades perhaps the greatest sci-fi villain of all time, the Aliens, into the Predator's B-movie arena. So the Aliens use their tales more and seem more bug-like while they scurry and run all over the walls. So? We've seen this and it has been done better before with less expensive special effects! Lastly, a final showdown with a queen alien. We saw this in Aliens and Queen vs Ripley was fantastic. Queen vs 100 lb college student female and Predator is not fantastic.
