This 'Counselor' Should Be Disbarred!

I'm not sure what's harder to believe here; the idea that Cormac McCarthy could deliver such a horrible script; that Ridley Scott is capable of directing this turkey of a film; or that Brad Pitt would even agree to star in this mess. If these guys were aiming to recreate another 'No Country For Old Men', they missed the mark entirely. The whole film is not much more than a gab-fest with individual actors delivering monologues that are the equivalent of metaphorical vomit. Javier Bardem seems to be channeling 'Jim' from the old 'Taxi' TV series with the wild hair and the nonsensical observations. Michael Fassbender's portrayal of the lead character, a lawyer who's decided to step over into the criminal wold to fix his financial situation, gives us a character that continually asks others what he should do instead of taking charge of his own situation. As a result, the audience has no reason to connect or even care about what happens to him. Cameron Diaz is the obvious villain in this story and earns the dubious honor of bringing raunchy down to a whole new level. Penelope Cruz is mostly wasted in this film. Seeing 'The Counselor' is like watching snow melt... It seems to take forever and you can't wait for it to be gone!
