The spectacular presentation can't mask the rudimentary story's lack of ingenuity, but the dream sequence musical bits make up for it. The worthy "Rocketman" pays respect to Sir Elton's legendary career and influence and serves as a vastly superior alternative to almost all of the music biopics of the last several years.
