Encino Man

Review - Encino Man (1992)

Dave Morgan (Sean Astin) and Stoney Brown (Pauly Shore) were two of the most unpopular kids in school until they found a caveman in Dave’s backyard. The two must now hide their new friend, appropriately named Link (Brendan Fraser), in “Encino Man.”

As if waving farewell to the cheesy 80’s comedy, “Encino Man” follows in the footsteps of such films as “Teen Wolf” and becomes a sci-fi comedy that has few redeeming qualities.

What’s really funny about this movie is that Astin, Shore and Fraser are all still generally popular names in film. It’s amazing that after making a movie like this they all kept on going. I shouldn’t knock it too much though, as I did enjoy it quite a bit. What can I say, Shore’s funny.

The whole movie just screams early 90’s, with is quirky plot, its cheesy music and its John Hughes-esque style. If you actually did like “Teen Wolf,” you’d probably really like “Encino Man.” Though neither of them is essential to life itself, this one is worth a watch.
