Anthony Hopkins is as cryptic as usual so I wasn't that shocked that he was good in it. I guess whenever Anthony Hopkins is in a picture, you expect it to be good or even great. What surprised me the most was how Ryan Gosling stacked up against a great actor. Both of them are comparable in so many ways, to the point where I looked forward to scenes when they would verbally collide. Watching this movie is like watching a chess match. Granted, it's not as tedious, but my point is that it's fascinating to watch each character react and adapt to certain situations. I was at the edge of my seat until the last scene because I wanted to know if good will win against evil. Ultimately, I think this movie is about strong minds that believe they cannot be beaten. There's a lesson hidden in this film and I think it's worth learning by those who believe they are invincible.
