An astonishing story and a film to match. The flippant, almost noir tone segues into an effective political thriller. The fate of the left-leaning Barka - his body was never found - is supposition, though the involvement of director Georges Franju and the writer Marguerita Duras in his disappearance is based on fact. A thoroughly absorbing and accessible film which works on several levels.
