Jack hits the road

Antonioni's classic from 1975 in which Jack Nicholson gives a suitably restrained performance, though maybe because it was shot in arid terrain and so there wasn't any scenery to chew on, as a journalist who's come to realize the futility of his work. It's another fine chapter in the 'alienation' genre which the Italian made his own. Interesting to see how the careers of the leads unfolded, or, in co star Maria Schneider's case, unraveled: Jack becoming a clown and Maria a junkie (though happily she recovered). Jack growls his was through the (DVD) commentary but doesn't add much.
