Pineapple Express review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 08/14/2012
This should be viewed without any expectations and just let it ride. Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) is a process server who accidentally witnesses a murder of an Asian guy. Ted Jones (Gary Cole) and Officer Carol Brazier (Rosie Perez) were responsible for the killing. Denton then runs to his dealer Saul Silver (James Franco). Starts off a bit slow then picks up after Dale explains his concern to Saul and go on a wild goose chase much like the comedies of the 80's and concept similar to The Big Lebowski. Screenplay just brought out the humor and hints of philosophical lines such as: Red - ""What we do in this life echoes in eternity!" Dale - "Don't you wanna get up and do somethin' about it?" and Saul - "Safety first, then teamwork." Topics on friendship, realities of life and maturation. …

"Pineapple Express" by Yojimbo

Seth Rogen stars as a 25 year old stoner who witnesses a drug murder, so he and his waster dealer go on the run with two hitmen and a corrupt policewoman in pursuit. I'm not a big fan of contemporary American comedy but I enjoyed Superbad and thought I'd give this a go, but if I'd known it was a stoner comedy I probably wouldn't have bothered. I know from experience that stoners are THE most boring, immature and irritating people on the face of the Earth (with the possible exception of musicians' girlfriends, but I digress) and lo, Pineapple Express for the most part is watching two annoying people shout and repetitively bicker at each other while smoking weed and acting like a pair of tools. It has the now overly familiar cocktail of wacky gangsters in pursuit, punctuated with comic …

One of the most overrated comedies EVER!!!
The Film Rebel - wrote on 06/26/2010
In the summer of 2008, there were two comedies that had quite a lot of hype surrounding them. Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express. I saw Tropic Thunder that summer and I fucking loved it! I didn't see Pineapple Express but I sure did hear a shit load of people telling me "OMG Dude!! You have to see this movie!! It's the funniest movie ever!!!" Well, I finally saw the movie on DVD with my folks and....oh boy....this has to be one of the least funniest, most boring, most overrated movies I have EVER seen.
Don't you just hate it when everyone gets so crazy about a movie and you're the odd man out who hates the goddamn thing? A lot of you might just be saying "Oh, you just don't get it. This isn't the comedy for you. You have no sense of humor!" Oh trust me, I have a sense of humor. But …

Pineapple Express
The Movie Man - wrote on 05/13/2009
The Pineapple Express is a well done "Stoner Comedy" that offers a lot more then the norm of it's genre. With good direction by David Gordon Green and a good script by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, This film also has a good cast starting with Seth Rogen, who's funny as usual. James Franco, who gives a hilarious performance in a role that's unlike anything you've seen him do before, he undoubtedly steals the film. Danny Mcbride who has a small role but makes the best out of it with funny dialogue. Gary Cole, Rosie Perez and Craig Robinson and Bill Hader also have good roles, There's even a funny role from Ed Begley Jr.. Too Bad that Kevin Corrigan is wasted. This film has a great comedy and action that is smart and cleaver, like most of the work from Judd Apatows gang.

Not Enough Laughs

I didn’t expect much from this film because I heard about the mixed reviews it received but I did watch it with an open mind. There were some funny scenes but there weren’t enough of them to make the film a stand-out from most stoner comedies out there. Seth Rogen is funny as usual but I didn’t find his acting particularly different from “Superbad” and “Knocked Up.” I felt like he’s the kind of guy who could’ve done more to make the film a bit edgier and politically incorrect… but didn’t. The real star here is James Franco. I didn’t expect him to be so good as a pot head but he nailed the character right on the head. I knew some guys in college who acted and talked like him. Despite the archetypical druggie he’s playing, I found Franco captivating whenever I’d …

Stoner flicks are surprisingly in at this day and age. And there's no doubt it’s real easy to find something to laugh about a person who's as high as a kite. When people get stoned there is no expectations, no limits and definitely no boundaries to what kind of shit might happen. This movie is just that, no holds bar comedy from start to finish. Seth Rogen is born to play this kind of characters, (remember Knocked Up) a typical guy who likes to get high with the greatest job in the world. Well it’s almost automatic when he's onscreen you know. He's just that likeable. James Franco also did a breakout performance. Who would have thought he's got a funny bone in his body. Well to me he should be doing this kind of movies when he ain't got nothing to do. I also like the other guy in …

A Kind Buddy Picture

Like a joint that has been passed around, Pineapple Express loses strength at the end, but leaves you feeling a little giddy and maybe a bit too lightheaded.
Judd Apatow has created a new monster called the bro-mance, whereas two (or sometimes more) male leads bond over common interests and end up as great friends. Usually there is also a female conquest involved but Pineapple Express forgoes that part almost entirely. The success factor is shaky - it worked best in Superbad and the 40-Year Old Virgin, but only partially works here.
The chemistry with Seth Rogen and James Franco is good. After being so serious in Spiderman, it's nice to see Franco play such a laid-back character. Rogen is pretty much the same guy from Knocked Up, a few years down the road and if he hadn't had a …

I almost fell asleep

I think I may be the only person on the planet that just doesn't get Judd Apatow films. I saw this last night and thought this as people around me were laughing hysterically and I just sat there confused at what was so funny, kind of like what happens when I try watching Family Guy. Sure, there were a few times I laughed at some funny moments, but the Altman-style of directing of improvised acting and overlapping dialogue wore thin after about a half hour. Will Ferrell has been making silly movies like these for years, only his are tolerable because they only last for 90 minutes or less. This movie drags on to almost two hours which is too long (especially the plot about the girlfriend, which added nothing to the story). I actually could have gone along with the stoners who are …

A Fun Time

I went into this movie a little skeptical of how funny it would be. My friend was very excited to see the movie, he insisted on seeing it on Wednesday when it opened and his feverish excitement put me off a little bit. I thought the trailer looked ab it funny but did not look like anything special.
Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised with this movie, I found it had me laughing quite a bit throughout the movie. I would say it was of the funniest movies I have seen in quite a while. I also saw "Step Brothers" recently and this movie trounced it easily (although I did enjoy Step Brothers). The action is fun and nicely done, it is a great throw back to some great 80s movies. If you are not into "stoner" comedy you may not enjoy it that much, but you do not have to be a big …
