Jack McCall (Eddie Murphy) is one business man who gets whatever he wants as he uses his words to deceive people. One day, he speaks lies to a spiritual guru and finds himself with a magical tree as his life indicator. Each time he says a word, a leaf falls.

OKAY. I see that most people do not appreciate this film. I would say that nothing was really great about this film, but ALSO, I should say that when I saw this one, it surprises me, I expected less but it gave something that exceeded my expectations. GREAT MESSAGE, yes! The story passed on my criteria. Eddie Murphy and the rest of the gang entertained me enough. I cannot give so much praise on it, but it was a decent watch for me. I guess, this was more of a family drama, I think. Something that a family will enjoy …

Eddie plays Jack McCall, a fast-talking literary agent who will do and say anything to close a deal. When he goes after the most sought after author, spiritual self-guru Dr. Sinja (Cliff Curtis), the guru sees through his deceit and agrees to the deal, only to later deliver a five-page book. Later that night Jack goes home to find an unusual tree in his yard. . After finding out that the tree loses a leaf every time Jack says a word he refuses to speak at all, as doing so will keep the tree, and him, alive but soon his work, marriage, and friendships are all affected.
I was entertained. There is a core of message there, of being true to yourself and those important to you, spouse, children, parents and friends. Worth a look if you’ve got nothing better to look at.

Ok seeing the reviews of this film would normally make film goers run for their lives. mind you i will say that it definatly wasn't worth the price of admission although it wasn't as bad as some might say either. I have always liked Eddie Murphy, he doesnt make the blockbuster films that he once made during the 80/90's however always is a comfortable presence on the big screen. now let's not put all the blame upon Eddie himself as he didn't write or direct this film. He just acts his way through what he believes to be a good acting choice in the long run.
This time around Eddie plays Jack, a fast talking literary agent who after signing a new age self help guru named Dr. Sinja ( Cliff Curtis) Now Sinja's claim to fame is he can see through anyone's lies and or curse that has been …

Great message, really bad movie.

A Thousand Words is a boring, stupid, and abominably unfunny mess that feels more and more agonizing to sit through as the it progresses through its ungodly 91 minutes. I've never seen stupid of such a high magnitude - A Thousand Words almost reaches it. It's somewhat of a shame to have such a great and important message presented in a movie that's so bad.
A man (Eddie Murphy) learns he only has a thousand words left to say before he dies. A tree represents Eddie Murphy's character, so every time he says a word, a leaf falls from the tree. Also, if someone hits the tree with something, Eddie Murphy's character feels the pain. Or if the tree gets sprinkled with water, Eddie Murphy begins to sweat. All of this ridiculous playfulness showcasing Eddie Murphy basically playing charades …

Movie Review of A Thousand Words

There was a time---many, MANY years ago---when putting Eddie Murphy in a movie was guaranteed to equal a big box office return and lots of laughs. Lately, however, it’s hit or miss, and---let’s be honest---quite a bit more miss than hit. Years after the fact, I am still trying to scrub the images of “Norbit” from my brain. However, I still find myself holding out hope that he will redeem himself from the long list of stinkers that have plagued the theaters since the mid ‘90’s. And despite my ever present sarcasm, I am an optimist at heart, and chose to give Mr. Murphy another shot at things by seeing his new film, “A Thousand Words”.
THE GOOD: Jack McCall (Murphy) is a big time publishing agent who spends his days smooth talking potential clients, while ignoring …
