The Godfather

SteelCity99 - wrote on 04/21/2018

Conglomerating the charm that Italian classics had, the brilliance of crime films of the Golden Age of movies and one of the most ambitious directions any auteur could ever apply in the entire history of the motion picture, the filmic treatment that Mario Puzo's original novel was subject to back in the marvelous film year of 1972 placed The Godfather in one of the most superior categories of cinema ever conceived by mankind. Following the unfortunate American tradition of not giving the full recognition that outstanding geniuses deserve in their particular era, the capacity of Francis Ford Coppola of portraying a powerful crime manifesto from a partially American style came slightly unnoticed. However, this capacity would be finally recognized until the release of the highly competitive …

The Godfather: Why It's Great

John - wrote on 02/04/2017

This is how to make a gangster movie. Every single thing to do with it is absolutely top-notch, from writing and direction to casting and acting, and, let's not forget that wonderful score.

It's all very well my saying, in these general terms, that this film is great, and, you could be forgiven for thinking that I'm singing its praises because it's widely regarded as one of the finest films ever, but, why I think it's brilliant is firstly, that its characters are, unlike in other movies of its ilk, so richly drawn. They are human, they are flawed; they're more relatable than any other characters in crime movies. Also, we are taken into the family. The audience is not merely witnessing these people's lives, but, are made to feel part of them; we get to know these characters with an …

Our Daily Free Stream: Francis Ford Coppola - The Godfather Legacy. Was macht Francis Ford Coppola heute? Was blieb übrig? In The Godfather kennt jeder jeden. Anders …

Don Vito Corleone: "You talk about vengeance. Is vengeance going to bring your son back to you? Or my boy to me?".

The godfather to me is a bloody brilliant masterpiece of a film and people may say it is not they cup of tea and am okay with that but this movie changed the way that I thought of movies, the story is about a man called Don Vito Corleone who has this big family and big friends and all in the middle of all of that the family and friends don't know that he works with the gangsters, The acting is out of this world and the music is so chilling and moving with a gangster feel mixed with it, R.I.P. Marlon Brando you beautiful man your brilliant actor bring us a strong Character in the movie that you deserved more then one Oscar and this movie deserved more then 3 Oscars it …

My 100th Review: The Godfather

memento_mori - wrote on 08/12/2013

This is a special event for me, because this is my 100th review, so I thought: why not do something special this time and review the film that contributed to my early love for film, the official king of all movies?
So here it is: my review for 'The Godfather'.

Rarely does a movie influence something. Especially today. After all, it is just a movie. it would take a lot to change something in a person.
For a long time, I had forgotten about the Godfather and started dismissing it as overrated.
Then I remembered, what I owed this movie.
It truly is life-changing for me, when something as simple as a fictional flick can change you in a way that you stop looking at movies as flicks, and start to refer to them as art. The Godfather is a good example that displays this, because this, …

"The Godfather" by Yojimbo

The son of a Mafia boss returns from the war and following an attempt on his father's life becomes more and more embroiled in the shadowy world of organised crime. Francis Ford Coppola's classic gangster saga is the story of a criminal dynasty headed by Marlon Brando in one of his most iconic roles. Coppola's direction is deceptively simple in that he uses no gimmicks or stylistic tricks; he merely allows the story to unfold and lets the superb cast do their thing. Brando's mumbling family and loyalty obsessed don has since become part of popular culture folklore (along with the classic score) and all other accompanying performances are top notch, from James Caan's hot headed Santino to Robert Duval's purely business orientated adviser. But this film is really the story of Michael's …

The Godfather review

Daniel Corleone - wrote on 07/05/2011

My first review of a film which I consider, one of the all-time best ever created. In every movie I would like to see factors that make a great film are visually impressive sceneries, amazing acting, a memorable musical score, interesting characters, quotable quotes, a wide array of emotions felt and subjects that can influence your life. This is a story of a passionate and professional father who will do everything to make his family happy. It’s also the rise of a “new Don.” He offers advice to those who need help even on his daughter’s wedding day. An attempted murder on Don Corleone has failed. Michael, the youngest, gets involved with the family business and is exiled. He marries twice, and bears children to Kaye. Sonny, the eldest, gets murdered because of his …

I just read a negative review of this amazing film and it inspired me to defend this as one of the greats. To begin one need understand that before this film there really was no mob movie genre, and no film could champion it like this one. Saying that means that all subsequent mob films owe a little to Mario puzo and Mr. Coppola, each new film or show adding to their foundation. The concept can be hard for some folks to agree with, but im fine with that. Lets say you agree with me so far...What i take most from this film (and what ill focus mostly on in this review) is the converging character arch of both Michael and his father. At the start of the film Michael is a timid young man that seems to be the opposite of his mob boss father. His father through a series of events becomes in …

The Godfather

There is no such thing as a perfect film, but this is the closest anyone has ever come before.Oscar-worthy performances are given by Duvall, Cann, and of course the great Marlon Brando, who won Best Actor for his portrayal of Don Vito Corleone.Everything from the costume design, to the art direction, from the eerie lighting, to the now infamous score by Nino Rota was all beautifully executed.Although this made most of the cast members stars overnight, it is Al Pacino who shines brighter than the rest as the hesitant, yet loyal son who gets thrust into the family business. In my opinion he should have won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Michael Corleone, and if not him then James Caan for his performance as Santino. The theme of family and its importance has never been so …

Classic Masterpiece

The Godfather was everything I've ever wanted to see in a movie. Everything was done brilliantly, almost lovingly, and almost everything fell into place in the film.

The story was one of the most unique that I've ever seen in a film, pieced together fantastically with wonderful characters, acting, and dialogue. The way the story progressed through the movie kept me amazed the entire way through, and I felt the story get even more compelling as the movie went on. Each character though the film had their own way of presenting themselves, which made the movie even more compelling to watch as time went on. Everything seemed to fit together at the end of the film, which is one of the things I truly loved about The Godfather.

The reasons why I'm giving The Godfather a 3.5 instead of a …
