Many of the plaudits that Downfall garnered could equally have been applied to this, another brilliantly written and acted production from Germany. Julia Jentsch is particularly outstanding and fully deserved her award for Best European Actress of the Year award. It's a heartbreaking film and even though the outcome is clear from the title, you hope against hope that her days will be prolonged.

There are some commanding moments in this overlong, talky German film that deals with the White Rose students of Munich who tried to resist the Nazi's; Jentz is well-cast and there's a wholly genuine feel to its atmosphere. Final Grade: B
