I'm guessing the title of the film is a play on the Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome - as the women in the film do anything to get attention (from faking a lost child to something much more sinister). It will leave you guessing, however, on just what is going to happen next. A dark film for sure - the opening itself is hard to get through - and it will certainly leave an impression.

Even in spite of its slightly irritating "psycho lesbian" angle, Proxy is one hell of an unpredictable film, almost Hitchockian, a word rarely used in films these days. It's also strikingly well made and constantly has one guessing where its going. It's not flawless, but in a way, it's morbidly fascinating. The performances are strong across the board. Zack Parker, with his violently beautiful visuals and strong control of mis en scene, is a director to watch. There is a LOT to process here, but it's one of the most twisty, twisted, and quite original indie films to come along in a while. Also, the ending is quite brilliant. (Not Rated- contains graphic violence and gore, strong sexual content, nudity, and language)

Unpredictable, But Very Uneven

'Proxy' starts off in a shocking manner. It's a bizarre way to begin a film, when not sharing any knowledge of the main character, story, etc. The whole film follows an unpredictable, weird path. The first half builds up a disturbed character. We basically learn nothing about her. Then an unexpected turn happens in the middle that swaps main characters. The second half changes into a drama about grieving. This change-up doesn't go over well. It slows to a crawl with the loss of the 'thriller/horror' elements, and the drama doesn't work. The ending is rushed. It falls flat after that long deflation. There's nothing in these characters worth following. The whole movie is just a turn filled plot, with an uneven mix of assorted genre materials, and zero character explanations. …
