Writer/Director Braff has carried over some of his unique sensibilities from 'Garden State', only this time he has added in usual tropes. The result is mixed. The narrative is concrete, in his second outing, but certain scenes felt like a blatant attempt at cliche movie sappiness. There are predictable crying scenarios containing random philosophical dialogue that just felt forced coming from these people. Other times the characters were much more engaging in a non conventional way. Those interactions shined through with genuine fun and good comedy. I enjoyed it in doses. Wish parts of it weren't so on-the-nose.

Die Leute waren sauer über Zach Braff. Zuerst gabs eine Gegenreaktion zu seinem viel umjubeltem Debüt. Zehn Jahre später machte Braff durch eine Crowdfunding Kampagne von sich aufmerksam. Niemand wollte die Fortsetzung seines Debüts bezahlen also wandte er sich an die Fans. Binnen 48 Stunden hatte er die Summe - was viel aussagt über die Beliebtheit Braffs! Noch mehr aber sagt es etwas über das Phänomen des Crowdfundings aus: Sollte es überhaupt von so berühmten und gutverdienenden TV Stars wie ihm genutzt werden? Und was ist mit der Film Industrie an sich? Laut Braff ist das System "Filmindustrie" zerstört. Er wollte einfach den Film machen, der ihm vorschwebte. Der Kickstart ermöglichte es.
