An artist walks a fine line when choosing to make art about the flaws and failings of other artists. There are a plethora of traps one can fall into when making a work that aims to dissect the fallible human beings behind the artistic process. If the artist pulls their punches too much, what purports to be probing can come off looking less like critique and more like an act of self-congratulation. Perrys dritter Film erregte das Aufsehen der Indie Gemeinde auf dem Sundance Filmfestival. Im Mittelpunkt steht ein egozentrischer Autor, Philip, der hier mit Perrys eigenem unerschrockenem Realismus vorgeführt wird. Perrys Regie-Vorbilder erkennen wir unschwer und doch kann man ihn nur schwer vergleichen. Zynismus, Selbstgerechtigkeit und der Tod sind seine Themen. Eingeführt werden wir durch die Stimme des Erzählers (oder ist der nur eine Einbildung von Philip?). Der Erzähler ist voreingenommen und dabei unfehlbar. Eine Kostprobe? "Philip returned to his pitiful life at the college". Nicht dass der Erzähler den Eindruck hätte, Philips Leben sei erbärmlich - es ist ein Fakt.
