The dramatic scenes have a sort of "History Channel" recreation feel, rather than real dramatic stakes, but the battle scenes are historically-recreated and beautifully shot. For history buffs, the battle strategy of Gettysburg is also laid out in detail, so it's more of an educational film than a truly engaging drama.

Great reenactment of the Gettysburg fight

Wow!!! That was probably the best movie aside from '89's 'Glory' i have seen as of yet on the US Civil War!!! Outstanding battel sequences with the end battle at Gettysburg shown with explicit detail. The only thing missing was the gore sorry if i sound demented however...war is it what it is...hell and when bullets hit you, it's quite simple you bleed. Great cast in this with Tom Berenger, Martin Sheen, C. Thomas Howell and last but not least Jeff Daniels who i'm not a fan of to say the least however he did a pretty good job delivering his version of Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain.

The re-enactment of the battle at Gettysburg was nothiing short of stellar as the director gives us back ground strategic moves by the different sides that is rare in war films. If you are a …

It is based around the novel The Killer Angels. This movie is very much an intellectual's film; you won't find your average Hollywood action flick. The main deterrent is that this is truely a four & a half hour movie. That makes this movie almost unwatchable without a break; it also makes Gettysburg one of the most powerful films ever! The acting is suburb and it manages to accurately depict both the Union's and Confederacy's motivations and intentions. You get an interesting insight for each of the major officers and heroes present at the Battle of Gettysburg. I usually don't love drama movies, but this truly is an …
