Man of Steel is not that Super, man !

Superman never was my favorite among all the other superheroes . I thought he looked like a pussy and not just because he was always wearing his underpants in the wrong way. If you compare him with Spiderman , Batman , The Hulk , The Magnificent Seven , Dare Devil and The X -men , he is actually just a lousy figure . Most of the other superheroes have been mutated by radiation , chemical waste or bitten by a spider. Superman just crashed on Earth , got his superpowers cause gravity on his home planet is much larger and gets weaker when he comes near to a simple green luminescent material called kryptonite. As a teenager I really didn't think it was that thrilling.
I was 12 years old when I saw the first movie in which Christopher Reeve starred as Superman. I was quite impressed by …

"Man Of Steel" by Yojimbo

A super-powered alien who crash landed on Earth as a child endangers the Earth when the military ruler of his planet arrives on a war ship demanding his return. Man Of Steel is a kind of cover version of Superman II (in a similar way that Into Darkness was a cover version of Wrath Of Khan) which is an idea that actually had a lot of potential. The original film has dated quite badly and a remake done in the right way could've been great; it had strong plot ideas, a sense of humour and a brilliantly camp and disdainful central performance from Terence Stamp as Zod. Man Of Steel however, has none of those things. Although the plot takes the Superman origin story in a refreshing new direction, the plot just replaces the humanity of the character with a hotch potch of cliched sci-fi mumbo …

I loved Man of Steel. There I said it.

Wow, still don't believe me?
This is Zack Snyder's best film and one of the better comic book movie reboots to have been released thus far. Let's face it folks, the Superman franchise needed a good shot in the arm and who else but Snyder was good enough to do it? With Nolan as producer and Goyer as writer, I expected a decent film but nothing like I expected.
Holy shit. Henry Cavill nails it as Superman. I applaud him especially for not trying to channel Christopher Reeve as his unfortunate predecessor Brandon Routh tried to do in the earnest but boring Superman Returns. The cast is excellent all around too. Amy Adams is a much more energetic Lois Lane while Michael Shannon is just plain psycho as General Zod. Kudos to actors like Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, and Diane Lane for …

Superlong is more like it.

The only reason this movie got two stars from me was because it has the character of Superman in it. I love the character of Superman and because of that I was able to make it through the two and a half hours of over stylized crap Zach Snyder filled this movie with. Not that it was all his fault there are a lot of other major issues wit things that happened in this movie. The death toll is incredibly high for a movie staring a character that saves people. And the way they treat Pa Kent is just said and ridiculous. Lastly the run time is Way to long. Every time I thought the movie was over it drug on and on. If you are not a fan of Superman I would not recommend spending your time watching this. If you are a fan of Superman prepare to be a little angry when you are finished watching it.

Blissful exhilaration.

Okay, like I have mentioned many times in the past: I have humility.
Almost five months after the release of Man of Steel, I decided to give it another watch to see if I maybe over-hyped myself or showed too much of my judgmental side.
I took a much closer, less biased look at Man of Steel, and in conclusion: I am pleased.
Don't get me wrong, Man of Steel is a very flawed movie. I still think Christopher Nolan should have written it, the performances of Cavill, Adams, Fishburne and others are completely wasted, the bullies push around Clark for no reason, the relationship between Clark and Lois is weak and some scenes get sloppy overall. But, since I am writing this review to make up for all my ranting in June, let's talk about some of the thing that I liked:
The main issues of …

Man of Steel review

"The world's too big...so make it small." Everybody knows the story of Superman, its matter of presenting it again on the big screen. It's funny how a ghost manages to do a lot, the love angle between Lois and Superman was rushed and it seems the battles of Superman with Zod dampens the welfare of humans. The length was prolonged due to details of special effects for the settings. Another observation was how dull this version of Lois Lane was depicted. Yes we see a glimpse of Lexcorp equipment being demolished but where was Lex Luther in this first installment. The action was more relentless but the story of aliens taking over the planet is done to death (this really felt like War of the Worlds from Spielberg mixed with Chronicle/Xmen).
On the positives, it was great to see …

Steel stumbles to soar high

Steel stumbles to soar high. In fact he does do the job, provide some visual feast. But Snyder has placed overly bloated action to give a feeling that, it did not reach the sky. Yes the action is extravagant, the visual effects are dazzling, the fans get two good surprises, but all are put to bad use by super speed camera movements and the worst use of shaky 3D action. Shaky cams does not give any action scene an impact. The fights keep going on (exploding buildings, tanker blasts, punches that go on and on without any end, air missiles and the nearly apocalyptic engine thrust). Come on Snyder where is the fun in it? Thanks to the back story of our hero (Nolan’s involvement I hope) as the way he grew to become now what he is. Leaving that alone, this steel stumbles with cliches from …

Spectacle and Spectacle Alone

Superman is not Batman. In saying that I don’t mean that I think that Superman isn’t as good as Batman, but that I think Superman should not be treated the same way as Batman. I am not a huge comic book nerd, but from what I can tell Superman hasn’t changed nearly as much over the length of his existence as Batman has. Batman has become a very dark brooding character while Superman is closer to his golden age counter part; he’s more of a role-model type. You cannot make a Batman movie starring Superman for these reasons; unfortunately that’s exactly what Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder are trying to do with Man of Steel.
Man of Steel is constantly acting like it’s saying something, but it isn’t. It takes tropes and clichés from Nolan’s and Snyder’s film …

Man of Steel "Steals" the Show
DanTheMan - wrote on 06/17/2013
Man of Steel was a good quality movie. True, it was predictable. But let's face it, most superhero movies are. With a movie in a franchise as big as the Superman one, you can't win. Make it too like the comic book and people will be disappointed with the lack of variety in the movies. Vary the movie too much from the comic book and people will feel betrayed that their beloved comic book movie isn't exactly the same as their beloved comic book.
All in all the movie was great. The acting was sublime from all the cast, with the possible, very debatable exception of Michael Shannon. I particularly liked Amy Adam's performance as Lois Lane, as it strayed away from the stereotypical damsel-in-distress view people have of her, and made her more independent and a more likable character.
Henry …

You Will Believe A Man Can Cause Mass Destruction
Unknown - wrote on 06/16/2013
'Man of Steel' is a much needed step above the disappointing 'Superman Returns'. For one thing, this re-boot is much faster paced and entertaining. Not a moment of screen time is wasted. The film swiftly covers large ground, in epic-scoped fashion. It is flashy, effects heavy and bombastic, but also thrilling and 'wow'-inducing in those aspects. There is enough spectacular action here to fill up two movies. It almost feels too much. The sheer amount of destruction alone is more immense than almost anything I've ever seen on screen. The story is well thought out, but not the best laid out. The individual 'flashback' moments involving Clark's upbringing on Earth are quite good and contain some genuine emotion. Though, do to the rushed/action packed nature of the film, they don't …
