"Deja Vu" by Yojimbo

Denzel plays his usual mild mannered but earnest supercop investigating a terrorist attack on a ferry who becomes part of a government team who can look through a window onto 4 days in the past. In other words, Minority Report for the past instead of the future. It's one of those films that has that kind of mind bending time paradox plot that tends to be quite entertaining if you like trying to figure out if the script writer actually thought the idea through properly, using the prerequisite science mumbo jumbo to try and explain it all, but of course it's all nonsense so you have to either accept it or not. James Caviezel makes decent baddie and is at home in time travelling wish fulfilment territory starring as he did in Frequency a few years earlier and it's pretty much the usual …

Special Agent Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington) from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF) is sent to investigate an explosion and discovers evidence that the attack was a bombing committed by a domestic terrorist. He meets-up with FBI Special Agent Paul Pryzwarra (Val Kilmer). Paul encourages Doug to join a team with Dr. Alexander Denny (Adam Goldberg), to investigate the events leading up to the explosion by using a new program called "Snow White", which enables them to look into the past (4 days, 6 hours, 3 minutes, 45 seconds, 14.5 nanoseconds) in detail. "Snow White" is actually a time window, and is also capable of sending inanimate objects into the past.
The pace of the film was smooth, soundtrack was nice and performances was sincere. Its premise was …

Tony Scott is one of the most interesting and complex directors in the film world today, as for Deja Vu, starring Denzel Washington and Val Kilmer, Tony takes the very simple process of changing time and space and makes it into something interesting, fun and just cool to watch. Deja Vu is a perfect example of a well made thriller with a hint of science fiction and mystery involved. Tony Scott has worked with Denzel before on Man on Fire, as both Denzel and Tony did a great job in whole creating an amazing movie.
In Algiers, New Orleans, after the explosion of a ferry transporting the sailors from the USS Nimitz and their families with 543 casualties, the lonely AFT agent Doug Carlin is assigned to investigate the terrorist attack. Without any lead, he is informed by Sheriff Reed …

A good blend of smart sci-fi and action.

I really enjoyed this film. I didn't know anything about it going into, it was an impulse selection. The movie sets up to potentially be some average action/thriller type movie but then they swerve you into this sci fi element that I really enjoyed. Another thing I loved about it, the sci fi in the movie is presented in some surprising detail and doesn't treat the viewers like they are in preschool. The movie definitely hits you very fast with a lot of information and expects the viewer watching is capable enough to grasp it. I know another review on here mentioned the stakes weren't that high.. I dunno I really think the lives of 500 people are pretty high stakes. I dunno check it out for yourself. I think it's quite good. I've watch it several times since it's been out and will again …

This has been on my Netflix for quite some time but I kept pushing it back because movies that I was more interested in kept being released. After hearing all the hype about it, I finally decided to watch it. I must admit that I had semi-high expectations. I was expecting a realistic, street-smart thriller, but instead I got a thriller mixed with science fiction. Although I went along for the ride, overall I felt like there was something missing. The stakes weren't that high and the supposed thrilling scenes weren't as thrilling as it should have been due to their wrong timing and delivery. I felt like the filmmakers had a good concept to work with but botched up the screenplay. I think if this film had been on the hands of a more capable director, this could've been more engaging.
