Just see the original

When I watched the original Halloween I just remember thinking "this needs more boob and blood." Oh wait no I didn't. One thing thats been lost on the horror genre is that we as an audience don't need to see everything. We all have our imaginations and most of the time that can be a whole lot scarier then anything that can be put on screen. I don't need to see every single gory detail of the murder just the person being killed by the killer can be scary enough. Also why did we need the rape scene. It did nothing to further the plot except in telling us that Michael got out while two red necks were raping a girl. The theater version didn't have the rape and I didn't have any issues with how he got out. The only positive from this movie is that it does a good job of giving a back story too …

Halloween Review

Now here's a remake worth talking about. I was worried really bad about this movie being torn apart badly. Because face it Rob Zombie is not a good director. But Halloween will rank as his best try to be one. Michael Myers is the best horror genre killer there is in my opinon. Rob Zombie captured him on camera at his best which was amazing Michael looked darker than ever and meaner than ever. Rob Zombie took Myers and made him believable. Tyler Mane's performance as Myers will be his best ever. Malcolm McDowell had a good perfomance but won't pass Donald Pleasence as Dr. Loomis nobody will I don't care how hard you try. Scout Taylor Compton did ok. This won't sky rocket her career as a actress like it did Jamie Lee Curtis, sorry only works once. Brad Dourif Did Great as Sheriff Bracket …

Great Classic Brought to Life Again

Although I never watched the original series, I thought Halloween was a great movie. There was enough outside story to make me relax, which made the trilling moments seem more extreme.
The acting, along with the writing of the script, seemed very realistic in my perspective. The movie brought the old clique of horror, but added just enough of everything to make the movie not seem cheesy or normal. While I try to do other things while I'm watching a movie, I just couldn't tear my eyes away from the screen.
All the nice things being said, there was only one things I really didn't like in the movie and that was the music choice. Of course, the original theme was in there, which was really nice, but the rest of the music somehow didn't fit the mood at all. When some music played, I …

Halloween

Halloween is a pointless, lazy and very uninspired remake of a classic film. With OK direction by Rob Zombie, this movie is terribly written and AWFULLY acted. The scares are mediocre and the dialogue is just too cheesy. Most of the characters are pointless, under-used or under-written, especially the ones from the original film like Malcolm Mcdowell (who's good, but incredibelly wasted as the usually Important Sam Loomis). The first half is fresh though useless and the second half is the entire orginal film wrapped into an hour. It was weird to see Danielle Harris playing annie, because she played Jamie in Halloween 4 and 5. The soundtrack is one of the few good things and it was fun seeing Brad Dourif as Sheriff Brackett. Scout Taylor Compton's laurie is no where near as good as Jamie …

This remake is better than all of the sequels

The first half of Halloween displays to us a rather dysfunctional family unit; led by the mother (Sheri Moon) and her boyfriend (William Forsythe), they appear to be absentee parents to three kids: newborn baby, Laurie, promiscuous teen Judith (Hanna Hall) and unpredictable teen Michael (Daeg Faerch) who has a penchant for torturing and killing small animals. Michael snaps and beats a bully to death then goes home and murders three people on Halloween night. He is then put in a mental institution and examined daily for over a decade by Dr. Sam Loomis (Malcolm McDowell) who becomes obsessed by how shut down and emotionless his patient is, becoming more and more internal and dangerous as the years progress. These scenes are what work best in the film, establishing the unseen institution …

A valiant effort from Zombie

After being committed for 17 years, Michael Myers, now a grown man and still very dangerous, escapes from the mental institution and immediately returns to Haddonfield, where he wants to find his baby sister, Laurie. Anyone who crosses his path is in mortal danger.
Scout Taylor-Compton, Tyler Mane, Malcom McDowell, Brad Dourif, Daeg Faerch, Sherri Moon Zombie, William Forsythe, and Udo Kier are in it. McDoweel & Moon stand out in this film...both did great jobs. The other actors/actresses were not great, but not bad as well.
The first half of the film is done pretty well. Even though I was against this remake from the begining becuase of the back story given to Michael by Zombie, he doesn't do as bad a job as I thought. Sheri Moon is great as Michael's mother. For the most part the …

Review - Halloween (2007)

Michael Myers (Daeg Faerch and Tyler Mane) was always an unstable child, even if his family didn't know about it, and unfortunately they had to find out the hard way when he murdered all but his mother and baby sister. Fifteen years later, Michael decides to break out of a psych ward and eliminate the one person still alive from his haunted past in “Halloween.”
For some reason director Rob Zombie felt the need to make this movie, and I don't know whether he should be scolded for that or praised. He handled the material rather well, showing a side of Michael that needed to be seen in more depth for many years. The problem is that after that the movie becomes nothing more than a scene-by-scene remake of the original “Halloween” with the exception of the last few …

Halloween

The third best in the franchise. I don't consider this a sequel or a remake. I consider it as an interpretation. At first I noted the things that were "wrong" in the movie regarding its story but when I stopped doing that, I enjoyed the movie a lot more. If this had been a remake, it would've been more predictable so I think that worked to its advantage. This definately captured some of the creepy tone of "Halloween: H20" and even better, the original 1978 "Halloween." Rob Zombie proves that he knows how to make a jump-out-of-your-sea t horror films. He uses the darkness as a character, as an offensive and a defensive weapon. He uses the audiences' expectations to turn things inside out. There is one major error that Zombie made, though. I think this movie could've been more effective if …

The night lame came home

Not so much getting better as a director, just not sucking as bad, Rob Zombie returns for a "re-imagining" of the iconic horror film. It's not as bad as most people feared it would be but it's not exactly good either. The last thing a horror movie needs to be is boring and unfortunately, that's exactly what this film is. Too much time is spent on how Michael Myers came to be (and who really gives a s**t anyway) and not enough time is spent in Haddonfield. Not to mention that the supporting characters are so un-likeable that as an audience you're kind of rooting for Michael. The sad thing is that I think that's what Zombie was trying to do. Make the audience feel sympathy for a heartless killing machine. Which basically makes this film the Devils Rejects. Being a fan of the horror genre I …

Too much of a good thing kills the movie

Very high expectations led me to be disappointed in this movie. Rob Zombie’s directing is proving to be mediocre with the same old formula of raw camera work, over-the-top dialog and gore that tries too hard to be shocking. Some of his movies this works, but with this one it hurt the mystique of the original movie.
Part of the reason the original Halloween was so good was because it took place in an ordinary town, with ordinary people and a seeming ordinary boy (Michael Myers) killed his family. But in Rob Zombie’s Halloween, Michael Myers family comprises of a stripper mother, a violent, drunk, cripple step dad, a teenage whore of a sister and Michael who tortures small animals. The town is also made up of degenerate white trash kids, which make it hard to relate to any of the …
