This was a pretty generic rom-com that played with the notion that you can be looking in all the wrong places for love. Mel spent so much time chasing after Diana before he realized that his true love was right in front of his face. It was interesting to see his character shift from the "playboy" who thought he would only have one night stands, to someone who has to confront their own intimacy issues to finally see what is in front of them. I enjoyed the use of Daphne and Casanova as an allegory for the love building between Mel and Ginger, showing that true love can come in an unexpected form.

I really enjoyed this movie. While it did touch on typical romantic stereotypes the one element that touched me revolved around the concept that people are looking for love for the wrong reasons. People can be so shallow when it comes to relationships. Love is not appearance or status or wealth or popularity, it is how the other person makes you feel and how you make them feel when they are in your presence. Daphne and Casanova really stole the show. They didn't care that they were different. They made each other complete. They didn't want to go on without each other.....Amazing what you can learn from a goldfish and a frog.

Kettle of Fish review

I watched Kettle of Fish only because my wife was watching it. I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining it was. I didn't like much about the character, Mel, at first, but as the movie went on, he became more likable. The movie reminded me a lot of When Harry Met Sally (minus the wildlife). The addition of the love match between the frog and the goldfish paralleling the growing relationship between the two main human characters was an unexpected twist. It was interesting to watch the development and growth in the relationship between Mel and Ginger, even if you knew from first meeting them that they would end up together somehow. They went from being strangers to roommates quite quickly, moved easily into a mutual friendship, and finally realized they were in love with each other …

Kettle of Fish Romance Comedy Review

Kettle of Fish is a very subtle and every-day romantic comedy film. This film explores very interesting character dynamics while keeping the premise very mainstream with an easy story to follow.

The main characters Mel, and Ginger begin the film with a very dysfunctional relationship when Mel forces her to stay together at this former apartment he sold to her. Both characters could not get long at first, but over time they managed to grow into the perfect couple and get together at the end. A true tearjerker in the film was the relationship between Daphne (the goldfish), and Casanova (the frog). Both animal's love for each other brought a very sweet and compelling subplot to the relationship of Ginger, and Mel.

When analyzing the characters, it does make people learn a very …

Kettle of Fish is a standard romantic comedy with a twist. The main character is a live-by-himself man child who has no time for anyone, but himself. He has it made!
After subletting his apartment, he gets kicked out of his girlfriend’s apartment. Having to crawl back to his old place, the displacement provides the catalyst for the man to mature.
A chance encounter with a bride to be, and the story is basically complete.
Good acting by the characters keeps the audience guessing as to who will end up with who.
The supporting characters keep it from being ‘just another romantic comedy. Fun and honest it is a delight. A goldfish and a frog named Casanova round out the cast.
The pacing of the relationships keep the movie rolling along. Predictable, yet fun, it manages to tell a …
